E-bike Rider Hospitalized After Freshwater Crash

An e-bike rider was recently hospitalized following a crash in Freshwater. The incident occurred when the rider, an 18-year-old man, lost control of his e-bike after hitting a pothole on Cavill Street, near Oliver Street. Reports indicate that the man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was thrown from the e-bike, sliding along the road at a speed of approximately 50-60 km/h.

Emergency services, including NSW Police and NSW Ambulance, swiftly responded to the scene. Intensive Care Paramedics from Balgowlah Ambulance Station attended to the injured rider, who was suspected to have suffered a concussion. The man was subsequently transported to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.

Family members of the injured rider arrived at the scene before his transfer to the hospital, but they were not allowed to take possession of the e-bike. Authorities, including officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command, conducted investigations at the site and took custody of the e-bike for further examination. A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed that an inquiry into the circumstances of the crash has been initiated.

This incident underscores the importance of safety measures while riding e-bikes, including wearing protective gear such as helmets. The speed at which the rider was reportedly traveling highlights the potential risks associated with e-bike accidents, especially when encountering road hazards like potholes.

The public is encouraged to provide any information that may assist the authorities in their investigation by contacting Crime Stoppers. This incident serves as a reminder of the need for heightened awareness and adherence to safety protocols when using electric bikes to prevent similar accidents in the future.
