BMW, known for crafting top-tier motorcycles like the R 12 S and M 1000 RR, ventured into uncharted territory with the innovative CE 02. Launched a couple of years back, this compact, all-electric bike stands out for its unique design and eco-friendly approach. Now, a special edition of the CE 02 has emerged, a collaborative effort between BMW and Deus Ex Machina, an Australian brand that transitioned from clothing to custom motorcycles and now into music and live events through Deus Records.
Deus Ex Machina’s touch on the CE 02 resulted in a one-of-a-kind creation featuring a custom leather saddle, four Marshall speakers, and a foldable DJ turntable. This mobile DJ booth on two wheels epitomizes style and functionality, ideal for cruising down the streets or entertaining on-the-go. While this bespoke version won’t hit the market, it serves as an inspiration for enthusiasts looking to personalize their electric bikes.
BMW is showcasing this unique CE 02 across France, gracing BMW Motorrad dealerships and Deus Ex Machina boutiques. Although this particular model remains exclusive, the standard CE 02 is available for purchase at $7,599 in the U.S. Positioned as an electric scooter but designed akin to a motorcycle, it features a single electric motor offering 5 hp or 15 hp variants. The more potent version accelerates from 0 to 30 mph in a swift 3.0 seconds, with a top speed of 59 mph and a range of approximately 59 miles.
Equipped with two lithium-ion batteries totaling 1.96 kWh, the CE 02 offers convenience with a quick charger that replenishes 80% of the battery in just 180 minutes. This ample charging time allows for a quick snack break at a nearby food truck, blending technology with practicality seamlessly.
BMW’s foray into electric bikes signifies a shift towards sustainable mobility in the motorcycle industry. With advancements in battery technology and increasing environmental concerns, electric bikes are gaining popularity among riders seeking efficient and eco-conscious alternatives. The collaboration between BMW and Deus Ex Machina highlights the fusion of innovation, style, and entertainment, catering to a diverse range of motorcycle enthusiasts.
As the automotive landscape evolves, manufacturers are exploring new avenues to meet the growing demand for sustainable transportation. Electric vehicles, including bikes, are at the forefront of this shift, offering a glimpse into the future of mobility. The BMW CE 02, with its blend of cutting-edge technology and design, exemplifies the brand’s commitment to innovation and creativity in the electric bike segment.
