Trek has introduced its first electric bike with a throttle, the FX+1, designed for effortless commuting and adventurous rides. This new model combines the versatility of Trek’s FX series with motorized assistance, catering to cyclists in the USA and Canada seeking an affordable yet capable option for various types of cycling.
The FX+1 features a 500W Hyena rear-hub motor, delivering 60Nm of torque and equipped with a 520Wh battery. With a top throttle assistance speed of 20mph, this electric hybrid bike offers a range of up to 50 miles, depending on usage and assistance levels. The inclusion of a handlebar-mounted thumb lever allows for easy activation of the throttle boost.
Trek’s decision to incorporate a throttle in the FX+1 stems from growing consumer demand for such features in the North American market. According to Taylor Cook, Trek Canada’s marketing manager, the addition of a throttle aligns with the brand’s commitment to providing genuine electric bikes that enhance the riding experience without compromising on pedaling capabilities.
The FX+1 is available in two models, class 2 and class 3, ensuring compliance with electric bike regulations, particularly in regions like California. The class 2 model is tailored to meet legal requirements while offering a seamless blend of pedal and throttle assistance, enhancing the overall riding experience.
Designed as a versatile platform, the FX+1 serves as a blank canvas for customization, featuring mounts for adding mudguards, racks, and other accessories to tailor the bike to individual preferences. Additionally, the bike is equipped with built-in front and rear lights, along with indicators that can be easily controlled from the handlebar for added safety and convenience.
One notable feature of the FX+1 is its magnetic charging capability, facilitated by Trek’s EasyMag charger. This innovative charging system clips onto the bike and can fully recharge the battery in just 5.5 hours, offering a convenient and user-friendly charging solution for riders.
Overall, the Trek FX+1 represents a significant step forward in the electric bike market, catering to the evolving needs of cyclists looking for a reliable, affordable, and adaptable option for their daily commutes and outdoor adventures. With its blend of motorized assistance, customizable features, and efficient charging system, the FX+1 stands out as a promising addition to Trek’s lineup, reflecting the brand’s commitment to innovation and rider-centric design.
