An electric bike campaign in Gloucestershire is striving to empower more women to embrace cycling as a sustainable mode of transportation. The initiative, known as She’s Electric, was launched by Georgia Yexley of Loud Mobility and Caz Conneller of CycleChic to inspire women to adopt cycling.
Supported by Think Travel, the Pedal Eazy Rent Scheme by Gloucestershire County Council is facilitating access to e-bikes. This scheme aims to encourage women like Ebube Izekor, who expressed her personal initiative in learning to ride a bike due to limited encouragement in her upbringing.
Jo Atkins, the manager of Think Travel, emphasized the transformative potential of e-bikes, stating that they can be a game-changer for individuals. Ethan James-Hodges from The Electric Bike Shop noted a shift in the cycling industry towards accommodating more women, despite its historical male-oriented focus.
Georgia Yexley highlighted the importance of creating a welcoming environment for women to explore e-biking. She’s Electric is organizing upcoming taster events to further promote cycling among women, with an emphasis on safety and inclusivity.
One cyclist, Sarah Summers, praised the impact of the new £48 million cycle spine connecting Bishops Cleeve to Stroud via Gloucester and Cheltenham. This 26-mile route, expected to be completed by January 2026, has significantly enhanced cycling infrastructure in the region.
As the campaign gains momentum, more women are embracing e-bikes as a sustainable and efficient means of transport. The Electric Bike Shop’s support for She’s Electric underscores the growing recognition of e-bikes as a viable option for women in Gloucestershire.
By encouraging women to cycle, the campaign is not only promoting environmental sustainability but also fostering a sense of community and empowerment among female cyclists. The inclusive nature of the initiative is instrumental in breaking down barriers and promoting cycling as a gender-neutral activity.
With ongoing efforts to expand cycling infrastructure and promote e-bikes, Gloucestershire is paving the way for a more inclusive and environmentally conscious approach to transportation. The intersection of sustainability, accessibility, and community engagement lies at the heart of the She’s Electric campaign.
As more women participate in cycling events and embrace e-bikes, the cycling industry is undergoing a transformation towards greater gender diversity and inclusivity. The success of initiatives like She’s Electric demonstrates the positive impact of targeted campaigns in encouraging women to take up cycling and embrace sustainable travel options.
