The Wuyang-Honda E-VO, a unique electric motorcycle born from a collaboration between Honda and Guangzhou Motorcycle Group’s Wuyang, is making waves in China with its cafe racer design tailored for urban landscapes. While its current availability is limited to China, the E-VO’s blend of retro aesthetics and modern electric technology has caught the attention of enthusiasts worldwide.
Unveiled at Beijing’s Shougang Park under the theme of “Electric Motor and Intelligent Driving,” the E-VO boasts a stylish exterior featuring LED headlights, a two-tone body, and a raised windscreen. Its robust suspension system, consisting of an aluminum swingarm, inverted front fork, and rear mono-shock, ensures stability on various terrains, weighing in at 143 kg with dual batteries or 157 kg with three.
The heart of the E-VO lies in its 8 kW electric motor, delivering performance equivalent to a 150cc gas-powered bike, with battery options offering ranges of 120 km and 170 km. Charging the batteries is efficient, taking 90 minutes for the smaller pack and 150 minutes for the larger one. While swappable batteries are not confirmed, the bike’s focus on city commuting suggests a promising future for convenient battery solutions.
With a top speed of 110 km/h for the standard model and 120 km/h for the triple-battery version, the E-VO offers a thrilling ride for city commuters seeking a blend of style and functionality. Priced at around $3,000 USD in China, the E-VO presents an affordable option compared to Western electric bikes, attracting budget-conscious riders looking for quality and value.
Wuyang-Honda’s partnership, dating back to 1992, has primarily focused on producing scooters and small bikes for the Chinese market. The E-VO marks their entry into the full-size electric motorcycle segment, leveraging Honda’s global expertise and Wuyang’s local manufacturing capabilities. While some debate its Honda lineage, the collaboration’s synergy has resulted in a standout product tailored to meet the demands of a competitive market.
Industry experts have praised the E-VO for its blend of performance, aesthetics, and technological features. With a digital dashboard, LED lights, and smartphone connectivity, the bike caters to tech-savvy urban riders seeking an intelligent and connected riding experience. While its current availability is limited to China, enthusiasts worldwide eagerly anticipate a potential global release of this innovative electric motorcycle.
