Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has initiated a community survey to gather feedback on the regulation of e-scooters and e-bikes in the Kiama electorate. The survey aims to address safety concerns raised by local residents regarding the use of these electric mobility devices.

In response to the absence of Australian Design Rules for electric scooters, recommendations were made in March 2020 by the Transport for NSW ESA Working Group. The establishment of an Upper House inquiry in June 2024 by the NSW Parliament to examine the use of e-scooters, e-bikes, and other mobility devices reflects the growing importance of regulating these forms of transportation. Ward expressed anticipation for the inquiry’s final report and its policy recommendations, emphasizing the survey’s role in informing potential law reforms.
