Court Fines Bus Driver in Fatal Electric Scooter Collision

The Gwangju District Court recently ruled in a case involving a bus driver, surnamed Kang, who tragically caused the deaths of two young soldiers riding electric scooters. The court showed leniency towards Kang, imposing a fine of 12 million won as a penalty for the incident that occurred in Gwangju last year.

While acknowledging the severity of the consequences resulting from Kang’s actions, the court also highlighted that the victims shared some responsibility. The court noted that the soldiers were riding the electric scooter under the influence and failed to check for oncoming vehicles as they entered the intersection. Additionally, a parked car obstructed visibility for both the driver and the victims, contributing to the accident.
