FLIT, a Cambridge-based company, has recently secured €1.4M in funding to produce cutting-edge folding e-bikes tailored for urban commuters. The funding round was supported by ACF Investors, Cambridge Angels, and Tony Purnell, a former Head of Technical Development at British Cycling. ACF Investors praised FLIT’s innovative engineering and urban mobility concepts, positioning them well in the expanding e-bike market.
The investment will drive the production of FLIT’s latest model, the FLIT M2, at their Cambridge facility. This funding injection follows a previous Innovate UK grant and aims to expedite the delivery of the FLIT M2 to customers across the UK. FLIT’s journey began when co-founders Dave Henderson and Alex Murray, inspired by electric bikes in Beijing, envisioned creating efficient urban transport solutions.
With Henderson’s automotive engineering background and Murray’s transport policy expertise, the duo settled in Cambridge to kickstart FLIT. Their vision materialized into the FLIT M2, a lightweight folding e-bike designed for seamless urban mobility. Weighing just 14.5kg, the M2 boasts a unique ‘no-weld adhesive bonding technique,’ borrowed from aerospace and automotive engineering, ensuring structural integrity and a compact fold.
Alex Murray, FLIT’s Managing Director, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing urban commuting through purpose-built e-bikes. Unlike conventional models retrofitted with electric components, FLIT’s approach integrates folding and electric features from the ground up. The aerospace-grade bonding technique not only reduces weight but also enhances durability, aligning with FLIT’s mission to simplify cycling for city dwellers.
FLIT’s success story underscores the evolving landscape of urban mobility solutions, where lightweight, foldable e-bikes are gaining traction among commuters seeking convenient and eco-friendly transport options. The synergy between advanced engineering techniques and sustainable design principles positions FLIT as a key player in the e-bike market, catering to the growing demand for efficient urban transport solutions.
As FLIT scales up production of the FLIT M2, the company is poised to further revolutionize urban commuting by offering a blend of innovation, functionality, and sustainability. The integration of aerospace-grade technologies into e-bike design exemplifies FLIT’s dedication to pushing boundaries in the urban mobility sector, setting new standards for compact, high-performance electric bicycles.
With the backing of prominent investors and a clear focus on engineering excellence, FLIT is set to make a significant impact in the e-bike industry, reshaping urban transport landscapes and redefining the way commuters navigate city streets. The FLIT M2 represents a leap forward in electric bike design, embodying a fusion of cutting-edge technology and user-centric urban mobility concepts.
